You're pretty spot on with your understanding with one minor addition I like to tell people, just don't be super weird/inappropriate about it, whatever *it* might be. Your clan being named rape is one thing, I'm personally not a fan, but the second you/people in your clan go around saying they're going to rape people, or imply that, that's where a line is definitely crossed. So far I haven't noticed that behaviour thankfully. I appreciate your introspection and consideration to others to revert your name. Thank you for that. As for the suggestion itself, I can see where you're coming from, it can be very distasteful (I'm sure especially to new players) to go around and see names such as the ones you mentioned. It's one thing for people to be saying it to eachother (in a non-offensive way), but I think seeing it as pop up notifications, in various UIs, or as text around the map isn't a good look. At the same time, like I said above, I think if they're not being weird with it, or targeting anyone, than really no harm done. Overall my opinion is +/- for adding a rule for this and it may be better to moderate it if people have complaints about specific ones.

But my immersion... JK yeah it's a bit much. +1

I genuinely understand your point and I want to apologize, I know it's horrible humor and utterly distasteful, my seriousness and ideals tied to the real world with what I care about get let go and placed somewhere completely different in my brain when I play unserious games like this, I can see why even calling it humor is gross and I wanna say I'm sorry, taking a step away from my unserious immature attitude I can have when I want to let go, makes me see your concern clearly and makes me think on that decision I made differently. I'll never treat such a thing as a joke in real life and I never have, I can see it being hurtful and I know people go through hell labeled as that word as I've lived a life and gone through things myself as well. I'm not on much but next time I am I'll change the gang name to the previous name (OnlyFrogs). Thank you for understanding and talking it out with me, you didn't have to apologize but I really appreciate it and of course I'll always forgive.

I can agree that you didn't use "nigga" towards anyone in a derogatory manner, so I can understand your usage of it a bit more now that I've had time to unwind a little. It's no excuse of course, but I've been particularly grumpy today for reasons I'm not even fully sure of. However, you at least seem to treat rape as a joke by being in a gang of that name, which I personally find disgusting. Basically, I understand if no changes are made to moderation, but I don't really like your behaviour much, especially with the whipping people doing jobs - though nothing racial was said during that to be clear to anybody else reading, I more have an issue with that behaviour being present at the same time as the chosen job name. I understand that you would prefer I talk to you if I have a problem like this, or whoever I might have the problem with, and I want to apologise for not taking that route first. I hope your night/day is going alright despite this, and I hope the rest of it goes well. Sorry again.

I'm curious how everyone feels about this since the allowance of this since is a relatively recent change and I believe this is the first time or if not then one of the first of problems being brought up. Should we branch out the censorship into whether something is said in a derogatory manner or not could possibly be a worthy discussion. At the end of the day though, what is being demanded for here would require broader restrictions than the rules we currently have, which reaches into a completely different playing field. Yes the second example can be seen as derogatory, to me it's just a saying, this is just one example how this can reach into shaky territory since not everyone will have the same views as others on what is derogatory or not. Though what if someone started a gang called "n*gga clan" would that still be okay, or only be okay if the word was used by people of that skin color only? Would the word "R4P3" be treated far more severely? Where context doesn't matter for that but does matter for the n word? From this starting point, what I'd think is when will it go from regulation on job/gang names, to player names, intercom usage, to text chat/voice chat. What I'm trying to understand is where the standard is supposed to be. The current rule, as I understand it, is primarily about directing offensive language at other players. That's a fairly clear line: don't harass people, don't call people slurs, don't target individuals, done deal. What is being suggested here is broader than that. it's about whether names, jokes, references, or words that some players find offensive should be prohibited. It expands moderation beyond preventing harassment and into regulating general expression. Personally, I'd rather see rules focus on whether players are actually being targeted, harassed, or made unwelcome by another player's actions rather than continually expanding the list of words, jokes, or themes that aren't allowed. Judging whether something is derogatory reaches into a shaky field relaying back to what I said earlier. I'd rather see players resolve disagreements through conversation/compromise, or reporting genuine harassment when it occurs, rather than creating increasingly broad restrictions on what people are allowed to name their gangs, jobs, or groups. To me personally, the goal of moderation in a Gmod server should be preventing players from being targeted, not preventing anyone from ever encountering something they find offensive. About my point on rather seeing players resolve conflicts by conversing, I couldn't help but notice this approach was not taken here. Nobody reached out to me directly to say they found the names offensive or to explain their perspective. I couldn't care less about having such as my gang name/job name, people here know I'm not that kind of person and I would've changed them. Instead, I was getting RDMed followed by the issue being immediately raised through a report. I don't hold any resentment toward anyone for doing that, but I don't think it's the right approach for every situation and it's not what I want to see in how this server deals with situations like these in the future.
